History of DojoSpark

In 2022, I opened my own kendo dojo: Strathcona Kendo Club. When I was researching what online tools I would use to manage my membership, I found that many solutions fell into one of two groups.

The first group was geared towards large businesses with full-time employees, such as gyms, dance studios, and professonal MMA. While these products could be tailored to your exact needs, they cost multiple hundreds of dollars per month. This was clearly out of my price range.

The second group were services that had been around for several years. These were free or low-cost designed to manage community groups. However, many had old designs or were unsupported by their creators. I needed something professional and reliable.

During my search I had a pretty clear vision of what I wanted: a single place to manage membership status, families, online payments, and instructional resources, all for a subscription afforadable by someone starting on their own. With over 15 years experience in the software industry, I decided to "scratch my own itch" by building it myself and doing so in a way that could help others in my similar position.

And thus was born DojoSpark. My hope is that this product helps you start your martial arts studio and will grow with your needs. Your feedback is important and I'm very interested in hearing how this service can support you.
